The Role of Political Groupism in Unrest and Corruption in India
Introduction
Political groupism has been a significant cause of unrest and corruption in India. If we analyze recent incidents of unrest, such as those in Maharashtra and the Delhi riots of 2020, we can see that various political, religious, and caste-based groups are often involved in such conflicts. This phenomenon is not new—Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself pointed out that in the 1970s and 1980s, riots would last for over 20 days. While the situation has improved, the persistence of political groupism remains a cause of concern, especially for the younger generation who may be surprised at the frequency of such unrest.
Political and Social Unrest in India
Recent unrest in Maharashtra and the Delhi riots in 2020 illustrate how political and religious groupism fuels violence. The Maharashtra incidents involved caste and communal clashes, while the Delhi riots revealed how political affiliations and religious tensions can escalate into widespread violence. If we look deeper into these issues, we can see that poor people, such as auto-rickshaw drivers and taxi drivers, are often the most affected by political groupism. Their economic struggles make them more vulnerable to exploitation by political parties, sometimes even pushing them into becoming informants or hidden enforcers for certain groups.
Casteism and Corruption in Education and Employment
Casteism and religious disharmony are not as visible in schools, but they become evident in job markets and competitive exams. Many people experience bias and favoritism in hiring and promotions due to caste or religious affiliations. Often, good education and jobs are inaccessible without connections to influential political or religious groups. This form of corruption creates a system where merit takes a backseat to social and political ties.
The Impact of Political Fear and Corruption
Political “karyakartas” (party workers) play a significant role in spreading political fear among the general public. While the situation today may be better than in the 1970s and 1980s, younger generations still find it daunting. Political groupism does not just cause street violence; it also leads to corruption within the government. Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index ranked India 96th out of 180 countries in 2024, reflecting the high level of corruption in the country (Transparency International).
Political Power and Its Consequences
India has not seen a government as strong as Indira Gandhi’s until Narendra Modi’s tenure. The thing is that Political Party related friction has always been there and this friction often results in unrest, as many people are directly affected by inter-party rivalries. If fewer political groups and unions were created, the level of conflict and unrest could be significantly reduced.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Groupism
Political groupism does have some advantages. For example, when terrorist organizations operate within the country, strong political groups can counteract them. However, managing group-related unrest is a complex challenge. People need to be aware of how political parties manipulate them for their own gain. Greater education in honesty and transparency can reduce the need for excessive groupism in India.
Conclusion
Political groupism has deep-rooted consequences, affecting everything from employment and governance to street violence and corruption. The best way forward is to encourage political parties and government officials to act with humility and responsibility rather than forming factions that lead to further divisions. India’s future depends on whether the country can move toward a governance model that prioritizes unity over group-based politics. Politicians like Arvind Kejriwal have attempted alternative approaches, but much remains to be done. A stronger emphasis on education, transparency, and social harmony can create an environment where groupism is less necessary and less destructive.
Strengthening Justice Through Political Party Engagement in Courts
The real idea is that political parties should focus more on the justice and court system. If these parties have any issues, they should take action through the courts or the justice department instead of forming large groups and crowds. A newer approach would be to reduce the role of “karyakartas” and put more emphasis on “karyalayas,” allowing “Party Karyalayas” to directly engage in legal matters by filing cases in court. This would lead to fewer chances of riots, providing the public with better solutions and fostering stronger communication between the courts and political parties.
All in all
Citizens whether they are rich or poor should think properly before becoming part of those political groups or caste related or religious groups who might spread violence in the future. I would rather say Caste and Religious groups are there but they can handle their political groups wisely. Make sure that your groups represent your political groups wisely towards the court and maybe in the court you might find better justice rather than riots.
I know that better solutions are never met in serious crowd related cases but I would say that better transparency in the government and better use of Political Karyalayas and Justice system would bring better future for everyone in this nation.
The thing I want to make clear here is that lesser amount of use of ” Karyakartas ” would bring more peaceful atmosphere in the country. If there are lesser groups formed people would have a better chance to grow in a better secure environment.
I think at this point of time most of the people would not get it but anyways, it is a better point for future politics.
Some Important Points that you can get from this Open Letter is :
- Most of the Political Unrest and riots are happening due to Religious and Casteist Groupism.
- Political Groupism may lead to bigger local and national unrest.
- Sometimes Castes and religions are internally getting divided due to Political matters.
- Many times Caste and Religious Groups and crowds are so large that it is hard to control it by Political parties also which causes violence.
- Sometimes Political Groupism is so deep that Government corruptions take place due to various political connections.
- Sometimes Religious and Caste related hate is so strong that certain groups become violent for their own people also and freedom to vote is affected by these Political Groupism. Here is an example of Political Groupism killing their own people.
- The better thing is that citizens use their Political parties in a better way and ” Karyalayas ” in a better way.
- The influence of numbers politics or crowd based politics is also too much where many caste people are out numbered and you don’t know what levels of corruptions and misuse of political power is going on by many people who are in power.
- Sometimes Political connections of certain caste and religions are so much deeply rooted in politics that so called Government Cream is literally looted by certain caste or religions only.
