Open Letters : World Peace & Reducing Military Power and Violence & Open Borders Policy

In this Open letter I want to bring on a very important topic regarding world peace that only can be a dream but it is a very important dream. This dream is about reducing military power and violence.

Example: Military Targeting Its Own People

A tragic example of military forces unintentionally killing their own people occurred in Nigeria, where the Nigerian military’s airstrikes—intended to target rebels—have mistakenly killed hundreds of civilians. Since 2017, nearly 400 civilians have lost their lives due to these misdirected attacks. A significant incident took place in Zamfara State, where an airstrike mistakenly killed at least 20 civilians. This highlights the dangers of excessive military action within a country.

Example: Military Forces Causing Civilian Casualties

In Syria, following insurgent attacks on security forces, government operations led to summary executions and other atrocities, with the Alawite community suffering significant civilian casualties.

The Need to Reduce Military Power for True World Peace

The world today is witnessing multiple conflicts that threaten global stability. Wars like Israel-Palestine and Russia-Ukraine, ongoing tensions in the South China Sea, the Mexico-USA border issues, and the long-standing North-South Korea conflict highlight how military aggression fuels instability.

While many nations focus on increasing military power for defense, the real solution lies in reducing militarization and shifting focus toward diplomacy, economic cooperation, and peaceful conflict resolution. Excessive military buildup often escalates tensions rather than preventing wars.

For true world peace, countries must work towards:

  • De-escalating military conflicts through negotiations and treaties.
  • Reducing military budgets and reinvesting in development, education, and healthcare.
  • Encouraging global cooperation instead of military alliances that divide the world.
  • Strengthening international institutions like the UN to mediate disputes peacefully.

History has shown that military dominance does not guarantee security—only trust, diplomacy, and mutual cooperation can lead to sustainable global peace.

Reducing Military Power: The Key to Stability and Development

History has shown that excessive military power often leads to internal violence and prolonged conflicts rather than peace. Countries with strong military forces have suffered devastating consequences due to internal wars and instability.

Examples like Syria, Iraq, and Iran demonstrate how military conflicts within a nation can destroy economies, displace millions, and hinder development. In contrast, nations that have focused less on military aggression and more on economic growth—such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE—have experienced rapid development, prosperity, and global influence.

A world with less militarization would mean:

  • Fewer internal conflicts, as military forces would not dominate governance.
  • More resources for economic growth, infrastructure, and education.
  • Greater global cooperation, where countries resolve disputes diplomatically rather than through warfare.

If nations prioritized development over military expansion, global stability would naturally follow, proving that peace is achieved through progress, not war.

Reducing Military Power: A Step Towards True Stability

Excessive military power is often misused, not just in global conflicts but also within nations against their own citizens. Countries like China and North Korea demonstrate how military strength, when unchecked, can lead to strict internal control, suppression of freedoms, and fear among citizens.

  • China has been criticized for using military force to suppress dissent, such as in Hong Kong, Tibet, and against ethnic minorities.
  • North Korea enforces extreme military control, restricting freedoms and maintaining strict surveillance over its people.

In contrast, nations that focus on economic development over military dominance—like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE—have achieved stability, prosperity, and global influence without relying on excessive military enforcement.

By reducing military violence within their own states, countries can:

  • Ensure citizen freedom and rights instead of ruling through fear.
  • Promote social and economic progress rather than maintaining control through force.
  • Achieve long-term stability by focusing on diplomacy and governance rather than military enforcement.

True national strength comes from peace, development, and global cooperation, not from military dominance over citizens or neighboring nations.

Open Borders Policy: A Path to Economic Growth and Stability

An open border policy has proven to be a game-changer for many regions, fostering economic growth, cultural exchange, and peaceful coexistence. The best example is Europe’s Schengen Agreement, where 27 countries allow free movement of people, goods, and services without strict border controls. This has led to:

  • Economic integration, allowing businesses to expand across borders.
  • Stronger diplomatic relations, reducing chances of conflict.
  • Ease of travel, benefiting tourism and labor mobility.

Successful Open Borders Policies Around the World

  1. Schengen Area (Europe) – 27 European countries allow visa-free travel and trade, strengthening economies.
  2. India-Nepal & India-Bhutan – Citizens of these countries can travel and work freely in each other’s territories without visas.
  3. United States-Canada (pre-9/11) – Previously had smoother border movement for trade and travel.
  4. ASEAN (Southeast Asia) – Several member nations have eased restrictions for business and tourism.

Can Open Borders Work for India-China?

While an India-Pakistan open border remains unrealistic due to deep-rooted conflicts, an India-China open bordercould be a possibility if proper peace talks are handled effectively. The two countries have massive trade relations, and a more flexible border policy would:

  • Boost bilateral trade, reducing economic dependence on the West.
  • Promote business and tourism, strengthening cultural ties.
  • Ease tensions, preventing future military standoffs.

If both nations prioritize economic cooperation over military conflicts, an open-border framework—at least for trade and controlled travel—could be a realistic and beneficial step forward.

Open Borders: A Key to Global Peace and Economic Growth

Embracing open borders is crucial for reducing global military dependence and fostering peaceful international relations. By easing restrictions, nations can create a more interconnected and prosperous world.

Benefits of Open Borders:

✅ Reduces Military Tensions – Less border pressure means fewer conflicts and decreased military buildup.
✅ Boosts International Trade – Free movement of goods and people enhances economic growth.
✅ Encourages Globalization – Cultural exchange and cooperation strengthen diplomatic ties.
✅ Minimizes Border Conflicts – Less militarization leads to a more peaceful coexistence.
✅ Promotes Economic Stability – Open markets and trade agreements drive national prosperity.

By prioritizing trade and diplomacy over military expansion, nations can take a step toward lasting world peace and economic development.

I hope in the near future there are going to be more peaceful efforts given by all countries to build an atmosphere of world peace more efficiently. I think reducing military dependency and going for open border policy is a good way to achieve this global goal.

Have a happy and Peaceful Living
